EGYPTIAN SCALES FROM A DIFFICULTY GLUTTON

HOLIDAY COLLECTION 2010 by JOHN HERRERA

By Mark Pillos

One of the persons I admire in the fashion industry is John Herrera. Aside from being down to Earth, he is jolly to be with. He is even thoughtful for the little effort that you can do.

There are a lot of designers out there who seem to be allergic with mortals (not to name names) , though John Herrera is definitely not that type of designer. He is friendly, humble, and a what-you-see-what-you-get person.

I saw him sketching his designs before the fashion week, and admiration suffused me like a strong torrent of water. My eyes widened with his skillful hands, and concluded that he critically thought in every line that he made.

He is meticulous in details and flow of fabrics. He once mentioned that he is “glutton for difficulty” which I really saw from his works.

He is the first designer who was so thoughtful for the designs I made. It is just flattering to hear that from a person you really admire. (Oh well, I’m stealing the spotlight again LOL)

With fabrics scrupulously chosen, horse hair, piping, leatherette scales, he was able to keep the viewers glued to each piece of his collection.

Paired with bags and accessories designed by his twin brother Paul Herrera, his collection was added with ostentatious glitter and sophistication.

With the use of gold, beige and black, he gave life to a contemporary Cleopatra- a queen splurging neither in pyramids nor deserts, but in metropolitan glamour.

Surprisingly, after the fashion show, he asked us if his collection is not bad.
Of course it isn’t. Indeed it is excellent! It is great!!! No one would dare question me if I say that it was the best collection in the Grand Allure Show.

Congratulations JOHN HERRERA !!! =)
