Could the news News that Brad Pitt wants to build his own airstrip at his French Chateau to avoid being snapped at airports, and billionaire Abramovich is adding an 'anti-paparazzi shield' to his new billionaire dollar yacht to avoid the glare of cameras - could living one's life in private suddenly be chic again?
Michael Malice, author and blogger who is the organizer behind NY's new media salon Protocols - has said the idea behind keeping social networks out of his evenings is to allow people to talk fearlessly. And herein perhaps lies the problem of web fatigue.
Our continuous stream of status updates, tweets and flawless Facebook profile pics envisage a world of flawless beauties filled with ultra-exciting lives and packed social calendars. The reality for many of us however is we turn to social networking when we're alone (hence the thirties attraction to Twitter), with that solo glass of chardonnay convincing ourselves, we're not drinking alone because we're tweeting our friends.
Documenting situations leave us circling encounters rather than diving head first into them, and the selective uploading of personal photos leads to an editing process where one's close friends and relationships are scrutinised for online credibility.
Even music is not spared. Last FM, the new arbiter of online music sharing, has its been said changed the face of music charts. Users wanting to put their best musical face forward have dropped personal favourites (those dodgy albums we like to listen to alone) in favour of the latest cool download.
The upshot? Thousands of users, with similar 'cool' musical libraries and leading us to question when is accessibility to each others information a good thing, and at what point does it start to morph a generation of clones?

A Generation of Clones

As one saying I heard, "you are unique, just like everybody else."
Well, Kerry Olsen couldn't put it any more fitting. Status updating on Facebook and Tweeting are banal (?) attempts to make our lives appear interesting when most of the times our cellphones don't even ring. One must admit though that there are really people who have interesting lives, let alone a full social calendar. The one who has the most packed calendar seems to be the most chic.
About (music) profile sharings, here we can say that a person can finally download a life, though it's not really his own, but others'. Copying other people, where's originality there? Or is the word "original" just a historical, traditional, conventional concept? It has happened to art before. But since art imitates life, life could be the next victim in this age of mechanical reproduction. What I fear is that our lives will soon be like mass produced from social networking factories.
Crazy? It's like the Internet hangover or something. Well, at least there are still people who think and question these phenomena. However, most people are so much like sheep. Have you seen that cartoon wherein a sheep was sitting in front of the TV because people who watch too much TV tends to just follow the pack and not think on their own? Well, we can replace the TV in that cartoon with a computer monitor now.

I was set-up!
Well, I knew it would end up like that but it was all fun though.
Anyway, I was supposed to meet two college friends last Saturday for some coffee. However, one canceled so I told the other one that I won't go anymore.
I was at the PC room with my roommate when H called. He's on his way back to his apartment from his hometown and asked me if we can go out. At first I was so hesitant because I didn't want to spend. Then, he offered to treat me. I told him that I wasn't in the mood to go to a bar, let alone a club. He said coffee would be good.
So, I went to his apartment to fetch him. When I got there, he told me that he wants me to try this new bar near his place in Makati (Tabu). I was like, "but I'm wearing shorts!!!" He said it would just be alright as the new place ain't strict with the dress code. I really thought we would just have coffee so I just wore cropped shorts and hightops.
I also thought that the outfit would make me impermissible to enter a bar. Well, I got in! I didn't even get to fix my hair! I just thought to myself that I really don't care about the other people. That was until I saw female Brazilian models at the place! I wonder where the male Brazilian and Japanese-Brazilian models went that night. LOL But I think some cute guys there were models, too. Me and H got cocktails: malibu pineapple and chocolate margarita for me and hawaiian punch and **x on the beach for H.
The music was good at some point but it got bad when it played hip-hop. At least I was wearing shoes; some foreigners were wearing shorts and flip-flops!
I didn't know what time we left but he said that he wanted to go to another place. I was like, "whatever." He dragged me to Malate (O Bar).
I was able to get into a club again because the club didn't mind my cropped shorts. H saw his boyfriend there and they sort of argued the whole night. We left without them making up. H texted me the next day that they broke up.
Well, I guess things like that happens and H has another boyfriend who's coming here soon. The boyfriend's German and I don't know but I feel that they'll be great together. The German seems nice.
At least I was there when H wasn't feeling good.
And, oh, vodka currant doesn't taste good in other places. But in Malate, they do taste good! I heart it.

What Full Social Calendar?

Rheeno is a good friend who has a sensible mind in writing and passionate heart in fashion styling.
Remember how I blurbed about people becoming their own paparazzi? Or how I commented on the banality and shallowness of posting one's social calendar on onlne social networks?
Guess what? I've been there. For months, actually. Making my life appear interesting by bragging about where I've been last night or last weekend. That's what you get when you're not into a relationship - a full social calendar!
This is so Gossip Girl, but what can one do when one's single? Go out with friends and making yourself visible in as many places as possible of course.
Several shopping centers in one day, several bars and clubs in one night, several events in one month - too bad my deigner friend Nikki isn't going to present this coming Philippine Fashion Week S/S2010. His boyfriend will present though. And as much as I can get into the guestlist, what's the use, I have work at the time of Popo's show.
Being out and about is for a socialite and I'm not. It's expensive, I must know - and am not rich. However, you just have to be there - wherever that is.
Being single, I can do anything I want and go anywhere I want. yet, sometimes, I think having a relationship can be better if that means lessening your goings out.
It sure is true when people say that single people always look good to be able to catch someone. (The rest goes like: those in relationships also always look good so that their partners won't leave them.) Oh and one friend told me that one doesn't have need a relationship when you're good looking. I told her, what's the use of one's beauty if no one appreciates it.
I've actually tried not posting anything about my social calendar anymore. I also don't take pictures anymore. Well, there are pictures but I don't post them online anymore.
I also try not to talk much about what I did where because I know that I'd just be covering up my uninteresting love life - or my life for that matter. I'm with friends and all but that's it - it can get boring sometimes, i must admit. I miss my old friends but I miss dating as well.
I really don't know what to do now, but the previous weekend has been busy and so will the next.
How I wish I'll bump into someone who'll be interested in me.
Maybe I go to the wrong places and with wrong people but I'm tired of playpens - clubs. Though, I wonder if there has been any new interesting places, let alone, any new interesting people.
Here I am, trying to live my life as usual - busy at work, busy with friends - definitely not enough. Eating out's Tiffany might be a slut but she was right when she said she needed some shake and bake in her life. I'd opt for that than a safe and sometimes boring nights out with friends.

$5.5M-earner Natalia Vodianova got her start in the pages of Vogue after coming from an impoverished family in Russia. The mother of three is one of the most well-rounded girls on this list. She's the face of lingerie line Etam, Calvin Klein, Guerlain, Jacob & Co. and also runs the Naked Heart Foundation, a charity that raises money to provide playgrounds in Russia.
