Miuccia Prada's skirt revenge

By Bang, Updated: 10/28/2009

Fashion designer Miuccua Prada has revealed she is working on a collection of male skirts for ''revenge'', after a colleague tried to persuade her against the idea.

Miuccia Prada is designing another line of male skirts for 'revenge'. The renowned Italian designer - who works for Prada and heads her fashion forward sister company Miu Miu - says she is working on an updated version of her infamous leg-baring fashion trend to irritate a colleague. She explained: 'I'm working on a men's collection right now and someone at the office worriedly asked me, 'You're not going to make short skirts again, are you?' So I'm now pushing it even further, just for revenge!' The 60-year-old designer - who is the youngest granddaughter of the company's founder Mario Prada - adores working on unusual fashion styles because they stop her from being bored. She said: 'Menswear should take cues from womenswear, and not just the other way around. Menswear is so limited so I'm free with my ideas. Otherwise I'd die of boredom.' Miuccia - whose celebrity fans include Tilda Swinton, Victoria Beckham and Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen - recently admitted she hates the 'cliches' associated with her work. She said: 'I hate the cliche of fashion designers since the beginning. And so because I came from another background - and actually being a feminist at those times, not that I've changed so much - I didn't want to do anything that fashion designers were doing.'

Luxury brand Versace announces crisis cuts

By Agence France-Presse, Updated: 10/28/2009

Top Italian luxury goods firm Versace said Wednesday it will cut a quarter of its workforce and expects to report a loss for 2009 as demand for its products has shrunk in the economic crisis.

Top Italian luxury goods firm Versace said Wednesday it will cut a quarter of its workforce and expects to report a loss for 2009 as demand for its products has shrunk in the economic crisis.

It announced a cost-cutting plan to axe around 350 of its 1,300 workforce and review branches and investments as part of a "comprehensive corporate reorganisation," but gave no further details.

It said it aimed to return to profit by 2011, after the recent downturn sapped demand for its upmarket clothes, handbags and sunglasses.

"Trading conditions in the wake of the global financial crisis have been severe and the company expects to make a loss in 2009," Versace's chief executive Gian Giacomo Ferraris said in the statement, without giving a figure.

Ferraris said Versace still had strong growth prospects, however, as one of "the most powerful brands in the luxury industry," noting the buzz created by artistic director Donatella Versace's latest spring and summer collection.

The group announced earlier this month that it had closed three stores in Japan, a key market for luxury goods that recently re-emerged from a recession.

Versace's former chief executive Giancarlo di Risio left in July in what the group called a "mutual" decision. Press reports had cited a disagreement with Donatella Versace.

The fashion house denied rumours that she had opposed cost-cutting measures imposed by the manager to combat the financial downturn.

Her brother Gianni Versace, known for designing glamorous and sexy outfits, was murdered in Miami in 1997, aged 51.

Di Risio was appointed in 2004 to restructure the business, which had been in crisis since the murder, and managed to restore the company to profit over the next few years until the global crisis hit.

Worldwide, fashion has struggled over the past year, with widespread store closings as well as buyouts, layoffs and dire predictions that consumers may never reprise their old spendthrift ways.

Italy has seen a sharp drop in exports of ready-to-wear women's apparel, putting tens of thousands of jobs on the line.

SMI, which represents some 60,000 businesses in the clothing sector, said some 56,000 jobs were at risk from among the sector's 510,000 workers.

Italian fashion company Ittierre, owner of the Gianfranco Ferre brand, filed for bankruptcy in February.

French couture house Christian Lacroix, citing the luxury market's doldrums, filed for bankruptcy in June.

A sheikh close to the ruling family of the United Arab Emirates has made a formal offer of 100 million dollars (68 million euros) for Lacroix and is regarded as the frontrunner among the takeover bidders.

Judicial administrator Regis Valliot has praised the sheikh's commitment to save jobs, tackle the company's bills and rescue the fashion house.

Also bidding are Bernard Krief Consulting and La Financiere Saint Germain. Italian retailer Borletti withdrew its offer.

Jessica Simpson's Indian fashion

By Bang, Updated: 10/28/2009

Jessica Simpson embraced Indian fashion at a party for her reality TV show 'The Price of Beauty' in Mumbai by wearing a traditional bindi.

Jessica Simpson has embraced Indian fashion. The 29-year-old actress wore a turquoise sari, henna hand tattoo and traditional bindi to a party thrown in her honour by Indian superstar Neha Dhupia in Mumbai this weekend. A source said: 'Her bindi was shaped like a goddess's spear or trident, and painted in holy vermilion, which is really fashionable with young Indian women. 'She looked absolutely stunning in a turquoise sari. Looking that good she fitted right in with India's fashion elite at the party.' Jessica - who split from American football player Tony Romo in the summer - may be wearing the tattoo as a charm. The 'Dukes of Hazzard' actress' spokesman said: 'They're worn at wedding ceremonies, and are supposed to bring good luck to eligible single women in India.' Jessica - who is currently filming her globetrotting reality show 'The Price of Beauty' in India - has had some strange experiences during filming the show, which explores different ideas of beauty around the world. She was caught in an earthquake in Japan, sat in a fattening hut in Uganda and was offered a brain sandwich in Morocco. She joked: 'You know, that's not really something I want to partake in!'

Top-Earning Dead Celebrities

The money might be drying up in Hollywood, but there's still plenty of cash to be made in the graveyard. The 13 iconic figures on Forbes' list of the Top-Earning Dead Celebrities grossed a collective $886 million in the past 12 months.

The money might be drying up in Hollywood, but there's still plenty of cash to be made in the graveyard. The 13 iconic figures on Forbes' list of the Top-Earning Dead Celebrities grossed a collective $886 million in the past 12 months.

Topping the list for the first time is Yves Saint Laurent, who earned $350 million care of a much-heralded estate sale. In February, auction house Christie's sold many of the French fashion icon's possessions, including expensive art, antiques and furniture, garnering $443 million in proceeds over the course of three days.

After commissions, the cash was split between the Pierre Berg-Yves Saint Laurent Foundation and a soon-to-be-created philanthropic group aimed at scientific research and the fight against AIDS.

YSL died of brain cancer in June 2008.

Debuting on the list in third place is musician Michael Jackson. In the four months since his untimely death, the King of Pop's estate has brought in $90 million.

Though his afterlife earnings didn't land him atop the list, as many had anticipated, few celebrity deaths have garnered more media attention. Since his June passing, Jackson's estate has sold an estimated 9 million albums worldwide plus more than 5.5 million digital downloads.

Sony shelled out $60 million for the rights to produce This is It, the highly anticipated movie featuring rehearsal footage of what was to be a 50-date concert engagement at London's O2 arena.

The $60 million advance will be split between Jackson's estate and concert promoter AEG. The estate, AEG and Sony will divvy up any profits from the movie.

Merchandise created for the tour has been selling briskly online.

At No. 2, between Saint Laurent and Jackson, are Broadway legends Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein. The songwriting duo, who wrote the music and lyrics to widely successful shows like Oklahoma, South Pacific, The King and I and The Sound of Music, made the bulk of their $235 million in combined earnings from the sale of The Rodgers & Hammerstein Organization and the rights to music they wrote together.

Royalties from other works further fattened their wallets over the course of the year.

To place on this year's list, a deceased celebrity--or "deleb," as industry insiders have dubbed them--needed to rake in at least $6 million between Oct. 1, 2008 and Oct. 1, 2009.

To compile the list, we spoke with agents, lawyers and other sources involved with a dead celebrity's estate to estimate their gross earnings (before taxes, management fees and other costs).

Behind Jackson is longtime list-topper Elvis Presley. The King of Rock 'n' Roll earned $55 million during the year-long span. That's more than some of the music industry's biggest living acts command--Bon Jovi brought in $50 million for the 12 months ending in June; Britney Spears grossed $35 million during the same period.

Unlike Jackson, Presley doesn't count music royalties among his revenue streams; his manager famously sold the rights to the King's pre-1973 recordings to RCA (now part of Sony) for $5 million. The handlers of his estate have found other means of expanding the fortune, from merchandising to admissions to Graceland.

Expect the estate's income to expand next year as Graceland celebrates Elvis' 75th birthday with new exhibits and a massive birthday celebration.

Rounding out the top five is author J.R.R. Tolkien, whose estate banked $50 million in the past 12 months. While he still sees book royalties from his vast collection, the majority of his earnings this year came from settling a long-standing suit with New Line Cinema over profit participation on The Lord of the Rings trilogy.

How can dead celebrities continue to earn millions every year? The short answer is merchandising and licensing deals struck in exchange for their name and likeness, along with sales of their recorded music, books or films.

Falling off this year's list are several Dead Celebrities mainstays, including Marilyn Monroe, James Dean and Steve McQueen. Despite inking new deals over the past year, these icons couldn't keep up with their peers.

One reason: Folks like newcomer Yves Saint Laurent or returnees Rodgers & Hammerstein have benefited from lucrative one-off events, which can include estate sales, posthumous releases and lawsuit resolutions. As a result, both YSL and Rodgers & Hammerstein aren't likely to earn enough to garner a spot on next year's list.

Jackson, on the other hand, will likely make tens of millions of dollar every year from sales of his back catalog, merchandise and memorabilia as well as royalties from his stake in the Sony ATV catalog of songs, which includes music by a range of artists like the Beatles, Bob Dylan and Taylor Swift.

Industry brokers say it's only a matter of time before Jackson also makes posthumous appearances in new advertisements. Technology has made feasible the practice of putting late stars in new commercials. In recent years, Marilyn Monroe and Audrey Hepburn have appeared in ads for MasterCard and The Gap, respectively.

In addition to name recognition and broad appeal, deceased celebrities offer the marketing community something living entertainers do not: peace of mind.

"Albert Einstein isn't going to get busted for drunk driving and Steve McQueen is not going to have an affair and be in the tabloids,” says David Reeder, vice president of Corbis' GreenLight, which represents Einstein, McQueen and many others. "Anything that's happened is behind them, making them a safe harbor for advertisers."

Mark Roesler, chairman of CMG Worldwide, which counts the estates of Monroe and James Dean among its clients, admits that with security and cultural resonance come limitations: "Regardless of what technological changes have occurred," he says, "you're still dealing with personalities who are deceased. They can't exactly make personal appearances."

Leona Lewis had Justin crush

By Bang, Updated: 10/29/2009

Leona Lewis has confessed she once had a huge crush on Justin Timberlake but it stopped when she worked with him.

Leona Lewis had a crush on Justin Timberlake.

The British singer has confessed she was attracted to the 'SexyBack' star for a long time, but her crush went away once she met him.

Leona - who worked with Justin on new track 'Don't Let Me Down', which appears on her upcoming album 'Echo' - said: 'I had a big thing for Justin before I worked with him, but I lose my crush when I meet people. Which is probably good news for my boyfriend Lou!'

The 24-year-old pop star - who is in a long-term relationship with Lou Al-Chamaa - has also revealed she turned down the chance to kiss 'Gossip Girl' heartthrob Chace Crawford in the video for her single 'I Will Be'.

She said in an interview with the latest edition of Sugar magazine: 'They wanted me and Chace to kiss in the 'I Will Be' video. But I said no way. I'd just have been too embarrassed, he's my friend! He's so beautiful, I mean, look at him - he could be a girl. He'd be a really pretty girl. But I just don't think of him like that. And it wouldn't be fair to Lou to kiss other guys.'

Kourtney Kardashian's chic shower

By Bang, Updated: 10/29/09

Kourtney Kardashian's sisters are planning a ''sleek, chic and elegant'' baby shower for her in mid November.

Kourtney Kardashian's sisters are planning to throw her a 'sleek, chic and elegant' baby shower.

The mom-to-be - who is due to give birth to her first child with boyfriend Scott Disick in December- will be guest of honour at the party on November 14, and her siblings Kim and Khloe have been pulling out all the stops to make sure it will be a memorable evening.

Party planner Sharon Sacks, who is organising the event, told X17 Online: 'The magic words I just kept hearing were sleek, chic and elegant.'

Invites shaped as baby-blue angel wings have been issued, reading: 'Please join us for a baby shower honouring Kourtney Kardashian, November 14, 2009, Noon'.

Describing the party, Sharon said one of the centrepieces of the menu will be a Chinois salad, which she added is 'every woman's favourite'.

Kourtney, 30, has said she is inviting around 75 friends and family to the shower.

She recently said: 'A lot of my friends from college have babies, so I'm inviting as many of them as I can.'

Meanwhile the baby preparations seem to be making Kourtney's sister, 29-year-old Kim - who recently reconciled with American football star Reggie Bush following a brief split - even more keen to settle down.

She said: 'Family is the most important thing in my life. I always had a vision I'd be married with one kid by the time I'm 30.'

Video: Five-year-old Romanian weightlifter becomes Internet star

By Chris Chase

Giuliano Stroe has six-pack abs before turning six years old. And he's also in the Guinness Book of World Records before he can probably even read it.

Though it's highly unusual (and possibly unhealthy) for a child to start weight training at such a young age, the pre-schooler entered the record books earlier this year after completing the fastest ever 10-meter walk with a weight ball between the legs, which is both both highly impressive and highly specific. Since then, a four-minute video of Stroe has hit the Internet and made him a viral sensation.

It looks like a training montage from a Rocky movie, minus the Survivor soundtrack. (And, interestingly, Guiliano Stroe is almost the same size as Sylvester Stallone.)

The highlights:

0:32 -- The "Crouching Tiger" wall flip.

0:41 -- Backflips on the kitchen table. Even Richard Heene thinks that's questionable parenting.

1:43 -- Doing barbell curls with toddlers dancing to 50 Cent in the background.

3:19 -- More flipping, this time from a high bar.

3:39 -- My arms hurt from just watching that.

The pre-schooler's gymnastic skills are every bit as impressive as his weightlighting prowess. Both sports are national obsessions in Romania, so Stroe should have plenty of options when he becomes a teenager ... in 2017.

Robert Pattinson inspired by Dean

Robert Pattinson took inspiration from James Dean for his role in 'Twilight'.

The 23-year-old British actor - who plays vampire Edward Cullen in the hit movie franchise - owes his success to the Academy Award-nominated star of 'Rebel Without a Cause'.

He said: 'I tried copying James Dean's accent just because I've always wanted James Dean's voice. I think that is why it has worked. Everyone loves a bit of James Dean.'

Pattinson also tried to copy the acting style of the screen legend, who tragically died aged 24 after a car crash.

He added: ''Rebel Without a Cause' was a big influence on the first 'Twilight' film - it influenced the hair and stuff. In lots of ways, it has a very similar character arc. An everyday girl brings this relatively strange individual out of his slump.'

Although Pattinson is thrilled with the success of 'Twilight', he admits he still feels overawed by his legions of female fans.

He said: 'I'm not entirely sure what it is. I'll probably realise afterwards how I could have controlled it a little bit more. But I am still like a deer in headlights at the moment.'

I was enclosed in a vacuum on what to write about MJ Cachero at first. But when I saw his exquisite photos, sparks of ideas embarked like uncontrollable gush forth of thoughts overwhelmed my mind. He works from raw to an exceptional masterpiece.

Marlon Jay Cachero Salinas (aka as MJ Cachero in photography mainstream) has his own photography business, which he supervises himself. MJC Photography, as it is called, began its operation on March 30, 2005.

This talented photographer was born on the 30th of March (hmmm…same date as that of his birthday. hehe) in Binangonan, Pangasinan. This 23-year old fulltime photographer finds happiness when people give appreciation to his works. On the contrary, he feels like an otiose if he is not productive. He considers doing publications as his greatest achievement. He has done ad campaigns and has contributed for publications such as Business Mirror, View Magazine and Philam Star.

He seems to have everything that he has now but just like other typical ‘strong’ person as he describes himself, he is still dreaming of having his own house, and be a globe trotter.

He is vernal yet succeeds beyond expectations. He is an epitome of a young root trying to extend at the very peak of success.
